identity, print & interactive
Sam Jones, a renowned Los Angeles photographer, approached Twin with an idea for an online and print magazine called Off Camera. I began with developing the overarching identity for the Off Camera brand, including logo directions, masthead concepts, and type treatments. The goal was to present Off Camera as a high end publication, while still maintaining the air of accessibility that is derivative of Sam's laid back interview style. I kept the typography clean, simple, and editorial feeling, and the palette strictly to black, white, and soft grays to compliment Sam's beautiful black and white photography and video footage. I developed a comprehensive brand guideline for both print and online formats, and began the process of wireframing and designing the online magazine.
My focus throughout the design process was to create an easy workflow for users to either listen, read or watch an interview, and to let the wonderful photographs and content speak for themselves by keeping the design minimal and out of the way. Since its launch in the winter of 2013, hundreds of thousands of viewers have tuned in to enjoy interviews with the likes of Tony Hawk, Robert Downey Jr., Aimee Mann, and many other fascinating individuals.
